Cooking Time: 45    Servings: 8

Products needed:

Ingredients:

  • 4 large onions

  • 2 tablespoons Olive Scene Garlic Olive Oil

  • ½ teaspoon sea salt, to taste

  • 3 teaspoons The Olive Scene Jalapeño White Balsamic Vinegar

Directions:

  1. Peel, halve and slice the onions.

  2. Heat the olive oil in a large pan and toss in the onions, turning to coat.

  3. Turn the heat to medium-low and allow them to cook uncovered 40-45 minutes, until they’re brown, soft and caramelized.

  4. Stir occasionally. Be patient! The onions need to cook slowly over a long period of time so they cook evenly and the natural sugars release to caramelize the onions.

  5. If the mixture starts browning quickly, turn the heat lower. Do not stir too often.

  6. When the onions are well caramelized, but not too soft, gently stir in the balsamic vinegar and allow cook another 15 minutes, turning to coat and allowing the balsamic vinegar to reduce and cling to the onions.

  7. Grill hot dogs, brats or sausage, and the bun.

  8. Spread onions on the grilled bun, and nestle the grilled hot dog, sausage, or brat in the onions.

  9. Top with a delicious mustard. (check out The Olive Scene for our wonderful selection of mustards)

** The onions are also fabulous on burgers, or topping your grilled steak, pork chops, or over a grilled Portobello mushroom. Versatile and delicious!
